Academy High values healthy competition of all forms, whether through athletics, Odyssey of the Mind, or Rube Goldberg competitions.  Competition emphasizes goal setting, work ethic, teamwork, and mastery of novel skills. Students also develop an appreciation of unattainable perfection through competition.

As a young school, Academy High will initially focus on individual sports, such as swimming, cross country, tennis, and golf, based upon the interest of its student body. IHSA sanctioned athletic competition is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2020 with track and field.

Currently, Academy High competes in recreational athletic endeavors, including coed indoor soccer and coed volleyball. Even as varsity sports commence, Academy High will remain committed to recreational athletic opportunities for our students- we strongly value opportunities for our students to be active, which fosters physical and mental wellness. Academy High strongly believes that high school is not too late to learn a new sport, especially one that can be played well into adulthood. This is consistent with the school’s physical education program, which includes running, boxing, yoga, and circuit training.

Congratulations to the Academy High Science Olympiad team for several top five wins in their inaugural year. The team competed against teams nearly twice their size that were comprised of as many as seven seniors. Go Owls!

Athletics serves as just one component of Academy High’s greater vision of how competition is defined.  We are proud to be the first high school in East-Central Illinois to compete in Odyssey of the Mind.  Academy High will also compete in additional co-curricular competitions throughout the state.
