Academy High seeks a part-time Science Teacher who is qualified to teach high school Physics starting in the 2021-2022 school year. Depending on interest and experience, additional teaching duties may include Health & Wellness classes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach one section of 10th grade Physics, a year-long academic core course with a focus on the real-world, hands-on learning.
  • Works with the department chair and curricular team to plan, document, evaluate, and revise curriculum, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
  • Creates effective assessment tools to support student achievement and growth.
  • Evaluates and grades students’ class work, assignments, and papers.
  • Uses effective classroom management techniques to ensure effective learning.
  • Consistently communicates student progress.
  • Collaborates effectively with departmental and teaching-teams as well as student support service personnel.
  • Participate in essential school activities such as faculty meetings, student-parent-teacher conferences, student advising, club sponsorship, and support of school functions.

Required qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Science.
  • 2+ years of teaching experience in a high school or higher education setting.
  • Familiarity with NGSS and/or Illinois State Board of Education Science Learning Standards.
  • A commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A willingness to engage students both inside and outside the classroom in a variety of co- and extracurricular activities (advising, coaching, club sponsoring, etc.).
  • Experience working in a one-to-one laptop environment or relevant technology skills.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in a social studies or humanities field.
  • 3+ years of teaching experience in a high school or higher education setting.
  • Experience supporting students, both in and out of the classroom.
