Academy High values healthy competition of all forms, whether through athletics, Odyssey of the Mind, or Rube Goldberg competitions. Competition emphasizes goal setting, work ethic, teamwork, and mastery of novel skills. Students also develop an appreciation of unattainable perfection through competition.
As a young school, Academy High will initially focus on individual sports, such as swimming, cross country, tennis, and golf, based upon the interest of its student body. IHSA sanctioned athletic competition is anticipated to begin late fall, 2019. Currently, Academy High competes in recreational athletic endeavors, including indoor soccer and coed volleyball. This year, the school plans to add rec 3 on 3 basketball and trampoline dodge-ball.
Athletics serves as just one component of Academy High’s greater vision of how competition is defined. We are proud to be the first high school in East-Central Illinois to compete in Odyssey of the Mind. Academy High will also compete in additional co-curricular competitions throughout the state.
