This week, the Academy High Board of Directors announced that Founding Head of School, Dr. Darren Pascavage will be leaving his role at the end of this academic year. He has accepted a headship offer from St. Luke’s Episcopal School in Alabama, effective July 1, 2020, a move that returns him nearer to his family in the southeast. Dr. Pascavage will remain at Academy High through the end of this school year to facilitate a smooth transition to new leadership at Academy High and to support progress towards the school’s anticipated accreditation this spring.
“This was not an easy decision, by any means, but in the end was one which was best for my family,” Pascavage said. “My service to Academy High as Founding Head of School has been rewarding and worthwhile in every respect – both personally and professionally – primarily by virtue of three things: the challenging, demanding and all-encompassing work required to help bring a brand new institution to life; the visionary, dedicated and courageous Founding Families, Board of Directors, and faculty whose commitments of time, talent and treasure have made our rapid progress and success possible; and the remarkable students who have brought distinction, honor and recognition to the school and whose individual and collective joy, intelligence, creativity and spirit have given Academy High its unique identity.”
Since opening, Academy High has more than quadrupled its enrollment; designed its tuition to ensure the school is affordable for all families; developed an innovative and highly interactive curriculum; engaged community members as module instructors in their respective fields of expertise; and offered global experiences through Hybrid Learning Consortium and travel to China. “Dr. Pascavage has personified the mission set forth by Academy High’s Board of Directors: to create an innovative and highly engaging academic environment for its students,” said Board Vice-Chair, Sarah Laufenberg. “His experience in birthing schools made him an ideal Founding Head, and has positioned Academy High beautifully for its next phase of growth and expansion.“
The Board of Directors has begun the search process for its next Head of School, with an application deadline of January 15th. The Leadership Opportunity Statement is posted here, and on national and regional independent school sites and Academy High’s Regional Office of Education.
