Congratulations to Academy High’s Odyssey of the Mind team, who will be representing the State of Illinois at World Finals in May. Academy High’s team competed in the Classics Division, where teams were challenged to write and perform a classic work as a comedic “Mockumentary”. Teams were required to add, deny, exaggerate, and dispute details of the story, leaving it up to the audience to decide who the true villains are. Academy High’s team revisited Alice in Wonderland, but with an interesting twist…
In the book, Becoming Brilliant: What Science Tells Us About Raising Successful Children*, the authors discuss the importance of the 6C’s: collaboration, communication, content, critical thinking, creative innovation, and confidence. The book discusses reimagining education to emphasize these skills. It is no coincidence that Academy High’s approach is consistent with the literature (Academy High’s Philosophy of Five C’s Plus One). Participating in Odyssey of the Mind is an exciting way to compete on an international level with schools that share Academy High’s innovative and evidence-based approach to education.
Congratulations, Owls, and good luck at World Finals!
